What to Bring:

To successfully complete your intake, you will require:

  1. A piece of photo ID (driver’s license, passport, resident card, etc.)

  2. Health # (private insurance #, provincial or state medical #, etc.)

  3. Emergency contact information of 3 individuals (address, phone number, and email)

  4. Proper travel documents and entry permits

  5. Recent test results for Hepatitus C & Tuberculosis(within 6 months)

  6. A withdrawal plan from a Physician for any Psychotropic medications

  7. For Quebec residents, private medical insurance

  8.  For U.S. residents coming into the Vancouver, Canada facility, private medical insurance

  9. For “Out of Country” residents please bring travel medical insurance
  10. For all students coming into the Vancouver, Canada facility, $1000 emergency medical fund; all unused portion of the fund will be returned to the student upon graduation.

While all necessities are supplied by the John Volken Academy, we appreciate students bringing enough of the appropriate clothing to get them started. There is no guarantee however, that specific clothing brought in by a student will become part of his/her allotted wardrobe. Therefore, it is discouraged to bring anything sentimental, or of extraordinary value.

All clothing should be of a casual and modest nature, and not outlandish or gaudy. We do not permit any clothing that has logos displaying violent words, foul language, or any reference to any music group, political theme, criminal culture, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco. We also do not permit any clothing that is dirty, tattered, or shabby.

  • 1 head covering (hat or toque)
  • 1 summer jacket or hoodie
  • 1 pair of swim trunks
  • 2 pairs of casual pants

  • 1 pair of exercise shorts or pants
  • 1 pair of running shoes

  • 1 pair of comfortable work shoes

What Not to Bring:

While clothing is always welcomed, we cannot provide storage for items not on the approved list above. Please do not bring electronics (including cellphones), instruments, family pictures, books (other than scriptures – we do have a library), nor jewellery (other than a wedding ring and watch).
