In honor of National Public Lands Day, this Saturday the students of the Seattle John Volken Academy donated their time and effort to serve their community and better a park in Kent, Washington. The boys spent their Saturday building a trail in Burlington Park and gaining confidence in themselves and in their ability to serve others. Derek, a student from the Seattle program, says “Whenever I have the opportunity to get out and get involved with the community providing service, it always instills a sense of pride and self worth. To be able to meet some of the influential people in the Kent community is always a treat. I had a great time. Thank you John Volken Academy.” It appears that Derek and the other students had a great time volunteering with Mayor Suzette Cooke reviving Burlington park.
It is truly inspirational to recognize the ways these students evolve through the course of their time here, becoming valuable, contributing members of society. We believe helping others is one of the best ways to help yourself and we are honored to have these guys representing the John Volken Academy.
